My New Favorite Graphic Novelist: Lawrence Lindell

It's April 2025 and I have just got done reading my first books of the year. I have been stuck on my interests in sustainable materials, and have failed to embrace the randomness that pops up on my desk throughout the week.

"Time to Buckle Up" by Lawrence Lindell was a delightful short read for me as I sat at my Yakity Yak (a desk). I knew I would love it from the beginning when I saw an explosion of comic style and graphics. The reader is thrust into the feelings of Lonnie who's parents are divorcing. He gets into a little trouble at school and time with dad proves to be valuable.

I plan to share this book with LGBTQ youth who may be going through family issues such as conflict, divorce, death, and etc. It would be for African inspirational for African American middle schoolers since Lonnie and his sister addresses being "young gifted, and black". The characters fashion style is so authentic in every way, from the colors to the patterns, these are certainly pieces I would wear.

Overall, this is a must read for me, and many other reluctant reader types who just want to zip through the book and talk about it. I hope this review and others like inspire you to explore the world of graphic novels and libraries. Thanks for reading!
